SUPREME IMOLE ROOKIE STREET-HOP ARTISTE OF THE YEAR

This category at the SDTA Awards has been established to honor the legacy of MOHBAD – IMOLE (ILERIOLUWA OLADIMEJI ALOBA). The shocking and untimely passing of Mohbad represents a significant loss for the music industry in Nigeria and, by extension, Africa.

In recognition of the late artist, who earned the nickname “IMOLE” during his lifetime, the SDTA Awards aims to immortalize his contributions. Mohbad was truly a beacon in the music industry; his music and voice were unparalleled, and his impact on the Nigerian music scene will be difficult to replicate. He was not only relevant for the beauty of his songs but also for the profound messages they conveyed.

This category is dedicated to honoring Mohbad’s legacy and celebrating his exemplary demonstration of supremacy in music. His unique style and storytelling ability shone through in his powerful and thought-provoking songs, which explored the realities and struggles of life in the streets as well as the darker aspects of the music industry. His lyrics vividly depict the harsh realities faced by young artists in record labels, who often endure unjust treatment, and shed light on the social issues and injustices that frequently go unnoticed in Nigeria.

This award will be presented to an artist based on a song or album that exemplifies a high degree of supremacy, artistic achievement, and technical expertise in addressing themes such as poverty, violence, police brutality, and the raw, unfiltered experiences of young signed artists within music labels, as well as the lack of opportunities faced by inner-city communities in Africa.
